Nº 2: Robert Frederick Green
The artist shares his love for a one-album '70s rock band, a pair of breasted dragon chenets, uranium glass, and much more.
We’re back with our second guest, artist and gardener Robert Frederick Green. Read on to find out what he’s into, and if you’re new here, hit subscribe for secret recommendations every Monday and Wednesday.
Robert Frederick Green is a London-based sculptor, installation artist, gardener and model. Rob could be placed in either the 12th century or the late 70’s. He’s here to tell us what he’s into:
☞ STYLE: I want to be the Pied Piper, or have his style at least. Yes, he is a sinister metaphor of death and abduction, but he has great clothes.
☞ WORTH A LISTEN: Drama were an underground progressive rock band that formed in The Hague in the early 70’s. They were a one-album band that worked a sultry mix of progressive Dutch rock with classical overtones and dank post-psychedelic blues together. ‘Melodrama,' their most heightened piece on the album of the same name, is one that gives credit to their namesake’s affiliation with the dramatic arts. Definitely worth listening to.
☞ PIERRE BERGÉ, D’UNE DEMEURE L’AUTRE: This Sotheby’s catalogue details items from the sale of Pierre Bergé’s estate. Lot number 707 (a pair of breasted dragon chenets) is both extraordinary and garish and points to his and his partner, fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent’s extended style. Specific past auction catalogues can be hard to come by, but Marcus Campbell Art Books and Worlds End Books have a good selection.

☞ YET TO SEE: Carved into a capital at Naumburg Cathedral, Germany is a scene of two monkeys playing chess that dates from around 1300 - 1350. It isn’t world-famous (although it should be), but I am desperate to see it all the same.

☠︎ HATES: Hiccups.
See you Monday, when our next guest will be revealing their secrets. ☞
