Nº 33: Tallulah Harris
Tallulah recommends a secret swimming spot near Margate, a South African delicacy and her favourite film.
We’re back with artist and designer Tallulah Harris. Read on to find out what she’s into, and if you’re new here, hit subscribe for secret recommendations once a week.
Tallulah is a London-based gallery manager, freelance designer and artist.
In the first lockdown ENNY dropped ‘A Million’ (a freestyle over the instrumental of Jay-Z’s ‘A Million & One Questions’) and it’s been on repeat ever since. She is a lyrical genius and no one can tell me otherwise. Downside: you can only listen to it on YouTube.
☞ BRAAIBROODJIES: will be found at every good South African braai. The only humble sandwich you’ll ever want and the perfect addition to a UK summer BBQ. Take two thick slices of white bread and spread butter on the outsides, and Mrs Ball’s chutney on the inside (it’s South African but can be found in most supermarkets). Stuff with slices of white onion, beefy tomatoes, and some cheese (I like mozzarella). Then braai (BBQ) like you would grill a toastie. Thank me later. Side note: once cooked, dunk in more chutney for more deliciousness.
☞ ERBORIAN’S CC CREAM: I’m not much of a make-up girl but Erborian’s CC cream has genuinley changed my life. It applies like moisturiser, adjusts to your skin tone, and makes you feel good about your natural skin. Everyone I’ve ever recommended it to has been converted which says something. Spenny yes, but it goes a long way (a pea is enough for your whole face).
☞ SECRET SWIMMING SPOT: Walpole Tidal Pool in Margate. It probably seems like nothing in Margate could be kept a secret but it feels like this really is. Five minute drive or ten minute walk from the main Margate beach is the best quiet swimming. Don’t go if you’re after chilled tanning vibes, but if a swim is what you want this is where to go. Even on the hottest days it feels like only us Kentions (people from Kent, I could’ve made that word up) seem to be there because it’s never packed. A real recommendation, but don’t spread the word so far it becomes packed. I’ll be fuming.
☞ THE FLORIDA PROJECT: I haven’t got much more to say other than watch it and you’ll get why. The filmmakers know what’s up (especially with colour).
