We’re back Isabel Jane Marvel. Read on to find out what she’s into, and if you’re new here, hit subscribe for secret recommendations once a week.
Isabel Jane Marvel is a New Yorker by birth but is undecided about her “home” these days. She’s currently getting her Masters in Architecture at RISD and…unexpectedly loves Providence. Isabel loves style, clothing and accessories. This is definitely superficial and materialistic but… love is love. She has a Standard Dachshund named Booth, after her favourite canine cartoonist, George Booth. Before moving to Providence, she has lived in NY, Paris, Puerto Rico, Montevideo, and San Francisco. She speaks 4 languages, the most recent addition being Italian after spending this summer in Rome, co-teaching a RISD architectural drawing course on Giovanni Batista Piranesi. In an ideal world, Isabel will go on to have a design studio that covers architecture, interiors, and furniture and product design. Is there really much difference between a building and a bag?
☞ GET A FAN: I am never without a fan. It’s the best accessory for climate change. Get a cheap one from Chinatown or that Swedish store Tiger for £3.
☞ GOLD JEWELLERY: Simple gold jewellery that you never take off (not even to shower). Above is my uniform.
☞ FOUNTAIN PEN: Always carry some paper and a pen. You never know what you’ll need to jot down in a flash and it’s tacky to be on your phone. I use a mini Rollbahn and Lamy safari fountain pen.
☞ HIP POUCH: ConCalma makes the best bags — fresh, fun, simple designs in perfect sizes made from recycled material, all handmade in Puerto Rico by local women who were made owners of the company. I have the hip pouch in 3 colours and wear them all in regular rotation as a cross-body bag.
☞ FRAGRANCE: Time to ditch the Santal33 — instead try the classic cologne 4711.
☞ A POP OF COLOUR: It goes a long way. I say this in reference to dressing, mostly. However, now that I think about it, it’s a good rule of thumb for living. Do flashy things in moderation: don’t dominate the conversation, don’t leave your things everywhere, clean up after yourself, and a little goes a long way (especially with face cream and conditioner). A pop of colour is enough to spice up your otherwise all-black outfit.
☞ AN ELECTRIC BICYCLE: will change your life. (I ride a Vanmoof)
☞ FINALLY: My Top Bars/Restaurants in my Top Places:
Bar San Calisto in Rome
Chez Jeanette bar in Paris
Pizzetta 211 in San Francisco
Choza restaurant in Mexico City
Oberlin restaurant in Providence
Estrela da Bica restaurant in Lisbon
Le Dive bistro in NYC
